In 2016 Arc’teryx, the Canadian technical outdoor brand, building on its long-term relationships in the French mountain town of Chamonix stepped up its game in various dimensions: consumer events, ambassador program, guiding office and the opening of its first French Arc´teryx partner store.
Arc´teryx ambassadors and Chamonix locals Isabelle Santoire and Stian Hagen play key roles at the Alpine Academy. Throughout the rest of the year, the local ambassadors take care of brand initiatives in Chamonix as permanent correspondents for the brand, organizing local events as well as providing important R&D feedback to the design team at the Vancouver head office.
Another big milestone took place in June. Arc´teryx and the mountain guide office Chamonix Experience (CHAMEX) opened a unique concept in mountain guide office. Perfectly located behind the Aiguille du Midi base station, the new CHAMEX office is a community space for climbers, alpinists and skiers to get together and plan their next trips. The space offers a variety of free maps, topos and guide books to browse through while having a free coffee, using the free internet, checking conditions or deciding what tour to book. Sébastien Rougegré, owner and head guide of Chamonix Experience developed that concept together with Arc´teryx: “We have imagined what would be the best set up for guides and clients, to meet, discuss weather and current conditions, route options, and organise great adventures. It is a very professional set up with a large 1/25 000 map displayed on the main wall and a large selection of maps of the Alps. The clients can also check the best gear available, Arc’teryx clothing but also a selection of technical gear. Easy to access, our staff in the space welcomes climbers from all over the world wanting to explore the Mont-Blanc massif and surroundings.”
